Trail information after heavy rain
Long and heavy rain made big disasters in many places.
Daisetuzan mountain range got big damages, too.
When climbing mountains, please check the latest update.

Yesterday we went to check the trail condition from Mt.Kurodake to Mt.Asahidake.
(This route is the busiest trail in Daisetuzan.)
The rock wall on the trail from Mt.Mamiyadake to Mt.Nakadake is broken.
Big rocks are scattered. When walking around here, please watch your step.
The trail on Kumonotaira was eaten away.
The earth and sand flood into the area of plants.

Yesterday we saw the foreign hiker wearing sandals climbing on the snow at Mt.Hokuchin.
The sandals are made by famous outdoor brand, functional is better than the other sandals. It’s dangerous!!
I talked him to help, but he didn’t need help.
But he took three times more time to climb down.
We did update on July 7th, snow on the Mt.Hokuchin is not undulating and easy to climb up and down.
But in the morning the snow face freeze. In case you might need crampons.
As usual the snow is lifted up and when it make slope steep, it’s dangerous to slide down.
Please climb safely with full equipment.

Snowy gorge below the Mt. Hokuchindake junction

There is 150m snow remain under the junction of Mt.Hokuchin.
The snow is not undulating as last year’s. this year’s snow is flat.
In the early morning snow face sometimes freeze. When climbing down, be careful.
Around Kumonotaira “Rhododendron aureum” “Geum pentapetalum” are blooming.
we are worry about future’s weather.
  • Take care to avoid slipping and falling.

  • Flowers are blooming in localized pockets.

Mt. Kurodake’s northeastern face

Snow is thawing.
From the entrance of Mt.Kurodake trail there is still 7m snow, after 7th station’s sign 25m snow left (hikers have to climb straight on the snow), 3m snow, after 8th station sign there are 5m snow and 5m snow.(after here there is no snow on the trail around the 9th station and the summit.
In particular after 7th station sign 25m snow is dangerous to slide down.
Today around here hikers was not able to climb down ,and required to help.
Other trail is not so dangerous now.
But hikers still need to be careful falling through under the snow, walking muddy and slushy trail and flooded trail.
They are very difficult to walk. You need full equipment.
Around 9th station of Mt.Kurodake “Ranunculus acris var. nipponicus” “Trollius riederianus var. riederianus” are spreading out to bloom.
From the top to Kurodake Ishimuro some flower is blooming , withering, and the other is budding.
Depending on the weather in the future, bad weather is not good for flowers.

Today’s Akaishi river is calm and the flow is not so much.
Watch the red circle, this part, we made the stairs, but it’s difficult to find, we marked.
Heading to the river, left side is snow left. Do not walk on this snow.
Soon the snow will fall down.(today we set up rope.)
Today’s temperature didn’t rise. (in the early morning 5°c~8°c on the 7th station of Mt.Kurodake) around summit it was chilly. We needed something warm to wear.
At this time of year please go out for full equipment.

Mt. Kurodake’s northeastern face

*north-east slope snow is melting now. (Heavy rain melt snow, too)
But be careful not to fall down and not to step through under the snow burn. (because there is big space under the snow.)

*Kumonotaira~ the trail is not good condition because of heavy rain.
When you go, you need full equipment.

*under the junction of Mt.Hokuchin ~the temperature is not rising and snow surface is freezing in the early morning. Be careful when climbing down.

*Akaishi river~ Snow is melting, there is not bridge of snow over the river. You have to walk in the river. The flow is fast due to heavy rain.
Opposite shore snow is high, but you can walk the stairs of snow.
Heading to Akaishi river left side shore is dangerous to walk. Please walk in the river.
