Flower report in Mt.Midoridake

At Mt.Midoridake between Daini hanabatake and Eiko no gareba
“Primula cuneifolia” and ”Phyllodoce aleutica ” are good time to see.
On the ridgeline “Gentiana algida” that blooms in the end in all alpine flowers start to bloom.
Short summer on the mountains is about to end.
Remaining snow left on the edge of Daiichi hanabatake.

Mt. Kurodake’s northeastern face

Mt.Kurodake report
Summer flowers still bloom. But autumn flowers start to bloom.
In the morning and night the temperature is low. (this morning is 10°c at Kurodake Ishimuro)
We found “Arctous alpina var. japonica” turning to red.
Near the Kurodake ishimuro after snow melted, “Geum pentapetalum” , “Phyllodoce caerulea” and “Cassiope lycopodioides (Pall.) D.Don” make communities to bloom.

Around Kumonotaira
“Geum pentapetalum” changed to fluff.
It looks like autumn.
Depends on places “Phyllodoce aleutica” and “Phyllodoce caerulea” make small communities.

About Akaishi river
The flow is calm, the amount of water is small.
Hikers can cross the river.
The situation changes every day.
Prepare your full gear to climb.

About The junction of Mt.Hokuchindake
Hikers have to walk on snow a little.
But most of snow on the trail melted.

Today it is windy, and very chilly.
At Ohachi daira it was very cold.
If you go to Ohachi daira, you need something warm to wear.
Walking to the peak of Mt,Kurodake, it is very hot.
But walking from the peak to Ohachi daira, it is cold.
*this early morning a young brown bear appeared near the Mt.Pon kurodake.
The bear is young and has just stood alone.
Bring your bear bell and noise makers.

*Soubakudai walking course is closed.
Because the course is broke.
No entry!

*Today the prefectural road “Aizankei~Kamikawa road” open!

Please read and understand the following statement

*The bridge that is over the “Izuminosawa” is broken, hikers can’t walk on this bridge.
When the flow is calm, hikers can cross the river stepping on the rocks.
When the river is flooded, be careful!

*We found many brown bear’s trace because no one had walked since last summer.
We found dropping , footprint , rubbing and gnawing trace.
As last time we posted about gnawing trace, the trace let other bears know the territory.
Around there some bears may live. Be careful, please.

*On the trail there are some fallen trees.
*”Murasame no taki “ course is closed because of the trail broken.
It will take a long time to recover.

Around Mt.Hakuundake hut a brown bear appeared.


July 26th we found it, but after that we have never seen.

Some hikers said that they found his traces of gnawing and rubbing on the sign pole of Itagaki shindo
It is said that the trace of gnawing show territory and let another bears know the existence.
This bear might habit around Mt.Hakuunndake hut.
So we call on hikers to voluntarily stay camping site.
(ask the hut manager in detail.)
Between Akaishi river and Kumondaira we found a bigger brown bears.
But he has never appeared on the trail.
Recently some hikers don’t bring a bear bell.
Hikers must bring a bear bell.
Please try not to meet brown bears.
Daisetsuzan is bear’s habitat.

The flowers of Mt. Kurodake

Mt.Kurodake report
Alpine flowers are good to see.
Hikers can see many kinds of flower and a lot of flowers.
Directly under the summit of Mt.Kurodake “Trollius japonicus” is spreading to bloom.
“Filipendula camtschatica (Pall.) Maxim” is also blooming.
Hikers will see flowers on both side of the trail.

From the summitof Mt.Kurodake to Mt.Ponkurodake “Pennellianthus frutescens” and “Bryanthus gmelinii” , “Cassiope lycopodioides” ,” Potentilla matsumurae” are blooming and making communities.
Around Ishimuro lodge after snow melts,” Phyllodoce caerulea” ,” Geum pentapetalum” , “Cassiope lycopodioides” ,” Potentilla matsumurae” are blooming and making communities.

Around Kumonodaira ” Geum pentapetalum” that is making community is finishing.
Hikers will see fluff.

Towards Akaishi river and Hokkaizawa after snow melts.
“Diapensia lapponica L. var. obovata F.Schmidt” , “Primula cuneifolia Ledeb. var. hakusanensis Makino” ,” Geum pentapetalum” , “Phyllodoce caerulea”, “Phyllodoce aleutica” ,” Loiseleuria procumbens” start blooming widely.
Soon August is coming. Depends on places, many flowers bloom, some flowers is finishing.
Autumn flowers will start blooming.
*Akaishi river the flow is fast and much water. But hikers can cross.
*under the Mt.hokuchin junction snow is melting. Snow on the trail is decreasing.
But there is still snow.
When hikers walk in the afternoon, snow is very soft and easy to walk.
But in the early morning and at night the temperature is low. So snow is very hard and slippery.
When hikers walk down, watch your step, please.
