Mt. Kurodake’s northeastern face

* Mt.Kurodake snow gorge is 3m after passing 7th station sign.
But hikers walk on the snow only 1m.
In a few days it will be gone.
From 7th station flowers start to bloom gradually.
Around 9th station to the top
Trollius riederianus and Weigela middendorffiana
bloom in community and are best time to see.
(but Weigela middendorffiana starts to wither a little )

The other flowers ( more than 40 species) starts to bloom.
Now Mt.Kurodake is called Flower Garden.
  • Trollius riederianus : The communities have spread out even more.

  • Weigela middendorffiana : The flowers have formed communities and continue to be beautiful; however, some wilting has become noticeable recently.

Just below the peak of Mt. Kurodake

Straight down Mt.KurodakeTherorhodion camtschaticum is now in the best time to see.
We think it will spread out soon.

Around herePennellianthus frutescens , Potentilla matsumurae , Bryanthus gmeliniit are blooming.
It’s like pink flower’s carpet!!
  • Therorhodion camtschaticum : It is peak viewing season.

The other days it was heavy rain . the heavy rain made alpine flowers die.
As the temperature is rising ,
Sieversia pentapetala and Rhododendron aureum start blooming again.

In some place they boom in community, from now they spread to bloom many place where there used to have snow.
  • Climb safely by allowing plenty of time.

Direction of the Akaishi River

Akaishi river’s flow is so fast and have much water because of melting snow.
Hikers can walk over the river.
Be careful not to fall down.
The other days’ heavy rain made the river overflow, the trail near the Akaishi river is under the water.
We think the trail will recover.
But the temperature is high every day, so snow is melting very quickly.
When crossing the river , be careful not to fall down, please.
  • Using trekking poles will make the going easier.

Mt. Kurodake’s northeastern face

It has been hot days. But Mt,Kurodake has still snow.
Around 7th station there is 30m and 10m snow gorge.
When going down , the trail is very slippery.
Be careful please.
There are another snow gorge. Hikers can see the trail on the edge of snow ,
Hikers rarely walk on the snow.
Melting snow made the trail bad condition. Keep in mind that there is a big space under the snow, be careful not to fall through the snow and fall down.
