Visitor Center Report

Yesterday’s big low pressure that we call “bomb low pressure” fell much snow.
The snow covered all Sounkyo onsen area.
The other day it snowed.
But it had been good and warm day, and snow melted.
The winter came back!
The weather forecast says it will rain.
So this snow will melt once.
Snow fall and melts many times, and snow pile up, and become lingering snow.
Full-scale winter will take more time.
*Mt.Kurodake ski area pull off to open because of shortage of snow.

Today’s Sounkyo Gorge
Last midnight snow fell all over the Sounkyo onsen town.
The snow was about 20cm deep, but now the snow on the road started to melt.
In the morning and evening low temperature might make road freeze.
When driving, be careful to drive. (all passes are covered with snow.)
The snow fell on the trees and the gorge.
The snow made fantastic scenery.

The second photo shows Sorbus commixta in Kamikawa town.
The snow fell much on the Sorbus commixta.
Wild birds were annoyed with snow.

The snow on the road that fell the other day melted and a little snow only left around near the road.
But from today November started.
Rough weather will fall snow!

Momijidani walking course is under the snow perfectly.
You cannot walk with sneakers.
(Depends on places there is 20cm snow deep.
In the early morning snow might froze)
Moreover the course is difficult to find.
As this photos shows, small avalanche occurred.
If you know this course very well, you can go there.
Now the condition is unstable.
We do not recommend you to go Momijidani.

At this time of year animals that hibernate are busy to get winter food.
This year hardy kiwi and acorn and wild vine grow poor.
They are essential food for brown bears.
If brown bears can’t get food, they might come to village.
Be careful when you go to the woods.
