Mt,Matsuuradake(Mt.Midoridake)/ Hakuun Hut autumn leaves report

Autumn has come in Daisetsuzan mountains ridge.

On the trail of Mt,Midoridake a part of “Sorbus matsumurana”in Daiichi hanabatake started to turn red.
This photo is no clear to find, a big community of “Sorbus matsumurana” that “Tasukino Kouyou” is called starts to turn red. (Upper photo)

Near the Itagaki junction “Arctous alpina var. japonica” is beautiful to see.

The temperature in Huakuun Hut was 2°c in early morning.
When you go to mountains, you have to bring something warm to wear.

Mt.Kurodake autumn leaves report

This morning temperature at Kurodake Ishimuro was 0°C, it was colder than weather forecast. (Hakuun Hut was 2°c)
For a while the temperature will stay 3~4°c.

These temperature made “Arctous alpina var. japonica” at the top of Mt.Kurodake and Mt.Ponkurodake so beautiful red.
Some are mad red, some are red and orange mixed color.
They are amazing.

“Sorbus matsumurana” at northeast slope of Mt.Kurodake ~Ohatidaira is turning red a little. (Compering with last post 8/27)
But most of them are still green.

On the whole all plant’s leaves are tuning from green to yellow green.

This year’s autumn leaves are moving a little faster than last year.
But it is ok.
We hope we can see these beautiful autumn leaves for a long time.

Fall foliage report for Mt. Aka

About the trail to Mt.Akadake
Some leaves of “Sorbus matsumurana” start to turn red from Daiichi kaen to Daiyon sekkei.
Weather forecast says temperature won’t go up rapidly, so in a week or in ten days you can see beautiful autumn leaves there.

It has been hot in flatland.
But daytime’s temperature at the ridgeline of Daisetsuzan mountains is sometimes 1~9°c in August.
In these days strong wind blows.
When you go to mountains, please prepare something warm to wear.
You need a knit cap and gloves and a jacket.

Mt.Kurodake Autumn leaves report

The first photo is Maneki iwa at 9th station and “Sorbus matsumurana”
Comparing with last post (8/20), it’s clear that leaves are turning red.

The second photo is “Arctous alpina var. japonica” at Mt.Ponkurodake.
Comparing with last post (8/20), leaves get more colors and expand red color part.

We declare, “Autumn leaves season starts!”

Mt.Kurodake 7th station ~Kumonodaira
“Sorbus matsumurana” is getting more colors than last post (8/20).
Most of leaves are green.

About the slope of Mt.Kurodake
Summer flowers are still blooming.
Leaves of “Hypericum kamtschaticum Ledeb”, “Thalictrum aquilegiifolium var. intermedium Nakai” and “Spiraea betulifolia” start to turning red.

About the summit of Mt,Kurodake~Mt.Ponkurodake
Some Geum pentapetalum are so beautiful red to see.

About Kumonodaira
Most of “Geum pentapetalum” has fluff.
But some of them have very red leaves.


Comparing last year’s post, about “Geum pentapetalum” coloring is later than last year.

But it might change depends on climate.
Weather forecast says it will be 8~9°c at high mountains on August 29th.
So We guess leaves are turning slowly.
