It has been hot since summer, so leaves are not turning color.
Now is end of September, at last we can see beautiful autumn leaves.
“Geum pentapetalum” that is at the Daiichi hanabatake and Daini hanabatake will be beautiful red in a few days. And also “Sorbus matsumurana” and “Betula ermanii” will be peak coloring.
A big community of “Sorbus matsumurana” that is seen from rocky slope, we call “Autumn leaves like a belt ” is good time to see.
But leaves are not bright color.
When the sun shine, leaves will be brighter

About temperature
Today’s temperature was less than 10 degrees today. (It was 7°c at 11.)
Wind blowing around ridge was biting cold
Last year’s first snow was Sep 19th.
Whenever temperature is going down, it snow this period..
When you go to mountains, please bring something warm to wear.
Have a nice hiking to see autumn leaves.

Mt,Akadake autumn leaves report

Almost leaves at Daiichi kaen is coloring. Orange color leaves, that is “Sorbus matsumurana” is dying or becoming brown color.
“Weigela middendorffiana” that is turning yellow in autumn, is still green.
Most leaves of “Betula ermanii” is brown leaves or dying.
“Arctous Niedenzu” and other grasses plans are very beautiful red.

Mt.Kurodake autumn leaves report

It’s almost end of September.
Today’s hiking was very hot, it’s unusual hot weather for this time.
(When it is bad weather, it might snow. Please bring something warm to wear.)

Leaves is changing autumn color day by day.
But its speed is very very slowly.
(We do fixed-point observation at Mt.Kurodake, Manekiiwa, Mt.Ponkurodake. please check our HP. You will know transition of leaves and seasons)

Some leaves are burned by heat, and are dying.

“Arctous alpina var. japonica” that is Mt.Kurodake ~Mt.Hokkaidake , Mt.Hokuchindake direction is green, orange, red. Now you can see its transition.
We hope every leaves will be beautiful.
Some of “Arctous alpina var. japonica” is becoming black-red.
Depends on area you will see beautiful red.
You will see beautiful autumn leaves for a while.

Comparing with last post, grass is getting red in a few days.
“Geum pentapetalum”, “Vaccinium uliginosum”, “Salix hidewoi” are good time to see.

Seeing weather forecast, the temperature will be around 5°c, sometimes 3°c.
We hope weather goes better.

Mt.Kurodake autumn leaves report

Today’ early morning temperature is 6 °c and cloudy.
When you take chair lift, you need something warm to wear.

But after 7th station sign of Mt,Kurodake, we were above the clouds.
The sun shined. When we went up, it was very hot. We kept ourselves safe from having heat strokes.
We can’t believe this hot weather in September.
So leaves stop to change color.

When it is cloudy and windy, we need something warm to wear.
When it is sunny, we feel hot.
That is very abnormal weather.

At the slope of Mt.Kurodake some leaves are changing color very slowly.
Around Kumonotaira and Hokkai sawa we can see some orange leaves and red leaves.
Most of leaves are still green and yellow green.
And also some leaves are dying because of this heat.
“Arctous alpina var. japonica” is getting dark color as same as last post.
But it is still good to see.
We can see green leaves a lot, so we will see good colored leaves for a while.

Weather forecast says that temperature will be 6~9°c beginning of this week, 5~6°c end of this week end.( But it’s just forecast. Weather forecasts are always wrong.)

Last year we could see beautiful autumn leaves around Mt.Kurodake .
We see the weather carefully.

In this time when the weather breaks, the trail gets frost and become slippery.
When you go hiking, please bring warm wear for snowy weather.

On the whole, some leaves are turning red, the others are still green.
This year the lowest temperature is still high, sometimes the lowest temperature is not lower than 10 degrees Celsius.
We must check weather every day.
