Thank you very much in the past year.

There are few days in this year.
This year has been really tough, so we really hope that next year can be a lot better.

Thank you for many people that visited our center, took part in our lecture, watched our website.
We try to help people about studying nature and to experiencing in nature.
Also we try to make people to interest in nature.
We have a new year holyday from 2020.12.31 to 2021.1.5.
We open from Jan.6th , 9:00~17:00.
And we hold “Center lecture in winter” from Jan.16th.

Trekking with snowshoe in Obako

We have winter season’s lectures from January 16th.
Date: 2021.1.16~2021.2.28 (only on Saturdays and on Sundays)

It falls a light flicker snow in Sounkyo.
Today’s temperature in early morning was -11°c.
It is very cold, freezing.
The photo is “Pteromys volans orii”
He is a nocturnal animal.
But at the same time as the sun he goes out of his nest to excrete.

The day I tried to take photos was very bad weather. I was worry about sunrise.
At last “Pteromys volans orii” came out.
What a nice timing!!!
This winter I have never seen couples of “Pteromys volans orii”.
They start to breed in March.
So they may start to find a good partner..

It has been snow storm since early morning.
The lowest temperature was -11°c in the early morning, that’s so cold.
In a few days the amount of snowfall for one day is no.1 in Hokkaido, and more the highest temperature is no.2 in Hokkaido.
That is so Sounkyo winter.

It is too cold to go out.
But we found “Frost flower”
Crystal of frost was made on the surface of ice, the colder it becomes, the more frost flower blooms.
It is so amazing, but it needs a lot of meteorological conditions.
That’s so mystical.

Deep and heavy snow fall in Sounkyo.
When it comes to Decenber, we often have 10cm snow every day.

But in November we had very less snow than usual year, 61% less than last year.

Now temperature stays high, in a few days the highest temperature is over 0 c.

We met “ Sciurus vulgaris orientis” that is finding wall nuts.
He dive his face into snow. So his face is covered with snow.
