Mt. Kurodake’s northeastern face

Mt.Kurodake information

As the temperature rise, the snow melts quickly.
The slope of Mt.Kurodake has 3m, 1m snow from the entrance and after 7th station sign 13m, 1m snow. (After 7th station sign, there is now snow.)

Slipping down risk reduces. But if hikers worry about walking on the snow, we recommend to bring crampons. (If hikers slide down at 13m snow, you might hit big rocks. When you climb down, be careful. )
About flower’s blooming we can see 20 kinds of flowers on Mt.Kurodake slope.
Passing 8th station, “Weigela middendorffiana”,” Ranunculus acris var. nipponicus” and “Trollius riederianus var. riederianus” spread to bloom.

*Akaishi river~ today’s flow is fast in some part, so prepare full equipment,please.
When it’s foggy and you walk from Mt.Hokkaidake, do not miss the trail.

*Snow under Mt.Hokuchindake junction~ snow isn’t so undulate. But when you climb down, be careful.

*Kumondaira~ “Rhododendron aureum”,” Potentilla matsumurae Th. Wolf”,” Phyllodoce caerulea” are blooming here and there.
  • Trollius riederianus : The plants are in full bloom.

Mikasa Shindo

“Mikasa shindou” in Kougen onsen is closed from today.
Because brown bears started activities and walk around the trail.

Prefectural rode “Kougenonsen”road and “Ginsendai” road is open today.
(“Aizankei” road is still closed.)
And bus for “Ginsendai” start to operate from afternoon.

Trail information after heavy rain
Long and heavy rain made big disasters in many places.
Daisetuzan mountain range got big damages, too.
When climbing mountains, please check the latest update.

Yesterday we went to check the trail condition from Mt.Kurodake to Mt.Asahidake.
(This route is the busiest trail in Daisetuzan.)
The rock wall on the trail from Mt.Mamiyadake to Mt.Nakadake is broken.
Big rocks are scattered. When walking around here, please watch your step.
The trail on Kumonotaira was eaten away.
The earth and sand flood into the area of plants.

Yesterday we saw the foreign hiker wearing sandals climbing on the snow at Mt.Hokuchin.
The sandals are made by famous outdoor brand, functional is better than the other sandals. It’s dangerous!!
I talked him to help, but he didn’t need help.
But he took three times more time to climb down.
We did update on July 7th, snow on the Mt.Hokuchin is not undulating and easy to climb up and down.
But in the morning the snow face freeze. In case you might need crampons.
As usual the snow is lifted up and when it make slope steep, it’s dangerous to slide down.
Please climb safely with full equipment.

Snowy gorge below the Mt. Hokuchindake junction

There is 150m snow remain under the junction of Mt.Hokuchin.
The snow is not undulating as last year’s. this year’s snow is flat.
In the early morning snow face sometimes freeze. When climbing down, be careful.
Around Kumonotaira “Rhododendron aureum” “Geum pentapetalum” are blooming.
we are worry about future’s weather.

  • Flowers are blooming in localized pockets.
